Jack talks us through some of the most frequently asked questions on CBD Oil at YourZooki.

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD Oil is an extract from the Cannabis plant. CBD stands for Cannabidiol – a specific type of Cannabinoid. Cannabinoids are special group of compound characterised by their specific shape and chemical composition. First discovered in the Cannabis plant, it wasn’t until 50 year later in the 1990s that Cannabinoids were also found to be used inside the human body. After they were discovered in humans, Cannabinoids were further classified into Phytocannabinoids (for those found in the Cannabis plant) and Endocannabinoids (for those found within humans). CBD is just one of over 100 phytocannabinoids that have a variety of physiological effects.

WILL CBD OIL MAKE ME FEEL HIGH?

The first thing to understand is that CBD in and of itself is non-psychoactive. When we take an extract from the Cannabis plant, although CBD is the main component, there are other cannabinoids and phytonutrients present. The psychoactive properties of Cannabis comes from perhaps the most well known of all the Cannabinoids: THC. So whether or not a CBD Oil causes you to feel high will depend on how much THC is in there. With this in mind, it’s not surprising then that for CBD Oil to be legal in the UK, certain criteria have to be met.

IF CBD OIL IS AN EXTRACT FROM CANNABIS, HOW CAN IT BE LEGAL?

To understand why an extract from Cannabis can still be legal we first need to realise that the term Cannabis actually covers a broad range of different strains, each with their own Cannabinoid Profile. For CBD Oil to be legal in the UK, it must be extracted from what we call ‘Hemp Cannabis’, which by definition, contains less than 0.2% THC. Having a THC level this low ensures there are no Psychoactive effects; to be absolutely sure that we meet the legal criteria and it’s safe for you to use, YourZooki CBD Oil is always third party tested.
